  1. How Does a Garden Grow Light System Work?

There are many benefits of indoor gardening, like preventing garden pests from getting at your plants and controlling your garden’s environment. If you are lucky to have your own greenhouse, providing enough light to your garden is not a problem at all.

While south-facing windows may provide just the right amount of light for a tray or two of seedlings, they will not be enough to grow vegetables or other sun-loving plants. For them to mature, you need to install grow lights.

But take note that indoor lighting used in residential facilities does not fully support photosynthesis. Traditional incandescent bulbs are not excellent alternatives to sunlight because they do not have the ideal light spectrum and intensity.

Investing in LED grow lights is the best option for an indoor garden. With the right grow lights, you can cultivate plants and make them produce flowers and fruit.

  1. How to Choose the Right LED Grow Lights?

Since there are different types of grow light systems in the market, choosing which one suits your needs most can be challenging. Below are the factors to consider when picking a grow light system for your indoor garden. Let us take a closer look at each of them:

  • Determine the plants you are growing.
  • Determine the lighting requirements to cultivate plants, heavy fruiting plants to micro greens all have different lighting requirements. The intensity of the fixture can be determined by the PPF and PPFD.
  • Determine your area space. Make sure to have sufficient room for your plants and growing equipment ie. lights, fans, filters etc. Also ensure sufficient ventilation in and out.
  • LEDs generally emit a broad light spectrum very close to the suns therefore do not always require different light spectrums for different stages of growth.

  1. What Are the Contributions of LED Grow Lights to Urban Farming Technology?

Many people today live in megacities, and it is projected that two-thirds of the world’s population will live in urbanised metropolitan areas by 2050. Approximately 6.3 billion people will live in these places by that time. And when it comes, traditional agriculture will not be able to provide ample healthy nourishment.

One way to mitigate this potential problem is urban farming, which allows for growing vegetables, fruits, and other plants to provide for the community. However, plants need to be fed mainly with water and light. LED grow lights are an efficient solution because they can aid plant cultivation in cities that don’t have enough resources to engage in horticulture activities.
